Description
Dodecyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid is an extremely versatile surfactant that can be used in acidic environments as-is or neutralized by numerous bases to form surfactants with many desired properties.
Chemical Properties
Dodecyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid is a colorless liquid. It is soluble in water. It is corrosive to metals and tissue.
Uses
Dodecyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid can be used as a catalyst for the esterification of fatty acids (oleic acids) to produce biodiesel. It can be used as a Bronsted acid catalyst for the green synthesis of quinoxaline derivatives which are used in a variety of pharmacological profiles. It may be electrodeposited with polypyrrole(PPy) films on the aluminium alloy to protect against corrosion.
Reactivity Profile
Dodecyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid is corrosive. When heated to decomposition or on contact with strong acids produces highly toxic fumes of oxides of sulfur. The toxicity and hazards of individual alkylbenzene sulfonic acids must be assessed individually [Kirk-Othmer, 3rd ed., Vol. 22, 1978, p. 45].

Contact can irritate and burn the skin and eyes.
Repeated skin contact may cause dryness,itching and rash.Breathing Dodecylbenzene Sulfonic Acid can irritate the nose and throat.
First aid
If this chemical gets into the eyes, remove anycontact lenses at once and irrigate immediately for at least15 min, occasionally lifting upper and lower lids. Seek medical attention immediately. If this chemical contacts theskin, remove contaminated clothing and wash immediatelywith soap and water. Seek medical attention immediately. Ifthis chemical has been inhaled, remove from exposure,begin rescue breathing (using universal precautions, including resuscitation mask) if breathing has stopped and CPR ifheart action has stopped. Transfer promptly to a medicalfacility. When this chemical has been swallowed, get medical attention. If victim is conscious, administer water ormilk. Do not induce vomiting
