5-Bromo-2-methylpyridine can be used as a pharmaceutical intermediate in the production of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular drugs. Its synthesis method is that the mixtrue of diethyl malonate and sodium hydrogen was stirred for 1h, add 5-nitro-2-chloropyridine in toluene and react for 1.5h at 110℃, then stirred for 15h at RT, and purify to obtain 5-nitro-2-methylmethane pyridine, 94%.

(B-39) Using 6-methylpyridine-3-ol, with reference to J. Org. Chem. 1967,32,1607, 5-bromo-2-methylpyridine was synthesised. NMR(CDCl3) δ: 2.51(3H, s), 7.05(1H, d, J=8.3Hz), 7.68(1H, d, J=2.5, 8.3Hz), 8.55(1H, d, J=2.3Hz).
