Crystal structure of Aluminum antimonide

Jun 26,2024

Aluminum antimonide (AlSb) is a Group III-V semiconductor and photovoltaic material. It can be alloyed with other III-V semiconductor materials to produce aluminium arsenic antimonide, aluminium gallium antimonide and aluminium indium antimonide, which are widely used in photodetectors, solar cell devices, LEDs and optoelectronic devices.

The lattice parameter values of AlSb, Al0.75In0.25Sb, Al0.5In0.5Sb and Al0.25In0.75Sb are 6.236A˚, 6.352A˚, 6.460A˚ and 6.6619A˚ , respectively. In addition, AlSb has a zinc cordite and sphalerite structure and crystallises in the cubic F̅43m space group. Al³⁺ is bonded to four equivalent Sb³- atoms to form the co-angled AlSb₄ tetrahedron. All Al-Sb bonds are 2.68 Å. Sb³- is bonded to four equivalent Al³⁺ atoms to form the co-angled SbAl₄ tetrahedra.
