Beschreibung

The aerial parts of Vinca erecta yield this imidazolidinocarbazole alkaloid which has been characterized as the epi-base formed on heating with NaOMe in NaOH and giving a crystalline hydrochloride, m.p. 2S7-9°C (dec.); [α]D + 92.1° (MeOH). Treatment of the alkaloid with lead acetate gives the dehydro derivative, m.p. 188-1910C; [α]D + 62° (MeOH).

Occurrence

The absolute configuration of this alkaloid has now been established from spectroscopic data.
