General Description
N-Acetyl Cysteine is an N-acetylated derivative of cysteine, containing a sulfhydryl group in its molecule. This group is capable of breaking the disulfide bond (-S-S-) of mucin peptide chains, thereby reducing their viscosity. As a result, N-Acetyl Cysteine acts as a mucolytic agent, aiding in the dissolution of mucus, purulent sputum, and respiratory tract secretions.
