Glycerine Chemical Properties,Uses,Production
moisturizer
Glycerine is a carbohydrate of polyols used in foods, soaps, pharmaceuticals and skin care products. It has the appearance of a colourless viscous liquid, is odourless and non-toxic and has a sweet taste. It is a natural endogenous humectant in the stratum corneum. Studies have shown that applying glycerin to the stratum corneum enhances its ability to retain moisture, and also improves its structure and enhances the skin's ability to absorb water or moisture from its surroundings. In addition, glycerin has a protective effect against skin irritants. Its affinity for water protects the skin from many irritants and enhances its repair function. Glycerin stored in the stratum corneum also helps the skin retain moisture and accelerates wound healing.
Uses
Glycerine is widely used in the personal or home care, food, pharmaceutical, feed and cosmetics industries. In food, it is used as a thickener or sweetener. In medicine, it helps the intestines absorb water, softens stools, and can be helpful in relieving constipation. It is also produced in the manufacture of cough syrups, as a tablet fixative, and in the production of soft gelatin capsules. Glycerin is also a treatment for glaucoma and other eye diseases that increase pressure in the eye. In cosmetic care, glycerine is considered the most effective moisturiser and is widely used in serums, lotions, creams and other skin care products.
Side effects
Glycerine is a natural compound derived from vegetable oils or animal fats, it is non-toxic and in most cases well tolerated. Individuals may experience adverse symptoms of an allergic reaction (including redness of the skin, itching, or rashes, etc.), if this occurs, discontinue use immediately, wash off, and contact a physician.
