Preparation

Obtained by demethylation of 2-hydroxy-4- methoxy-3-methylpropiophenone,
with hydriodic acid (d = 1.7) in acetic anhydride at 130–140° for 2 h (65%)
with aluminium chloride at 135–140° for 3 h.
