World Health Organization (WHO)

Zomepirac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent, was introduced in 1979 for the treatment of rheumatic disorders and the management of moderate to severe pain. By 1983 its use had been associated with serious allergic reactions, including five deaths from anaphylaxis. This led to voluntary withdrawal of the drug from markets worldwide by the major manufacturer.
