O-Methylsterigmatocystin is a xanthone isolated from several species of Aspergillus and Chaetomium. O-Methysterigmatocystin is structurally related to the aflatoxins and, while it is considered mutagenic, teratogenic and carcinogenic, it is less widespread and potent than the aflatoxins.
