A THF solution (9 mL) of methyl 2-fluorobenzoate (1424 mg) was cooled on ice bath while stirring, a 3 mol/L methylmagnesium bromide/diethyl ether solution (9.2 mL) was dropped.
After stirring for 1.5 hours at room temperature, a saturated aqueous solution of ammonium chloride (25 mL) and water (50 mL) was added sequentially to the reaction solution.
After the product was extracted with ethyl acetate (40 mL), the organic layer was dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 2-(2-fluorophenyl)propane-2-ol (1472 mg) as an oil.
1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 1.65 (s, 6H), 2.12-2.14 (m, 1H), 6.99-7.06 (m, 1H), 7.10-7.15 (m, 1H), 7.21-7.26 (m, 1H), 7.53-7.57 (m, 1H)
