Steps:

General procedure for the synthesis of 2-aminobenzothiazoles (3’)

A mixture of cyclohexanone (0.26 mL, 2.5 mmol, 1 equiv.) and thiourea (0.19 g, 2.5 mmol, 1 equiv.) in CH3CN (10 mL) were taken in a 100 mL round-bottomed flask and I2 (0.19 g, 0.75 mmol, 30 mol%), PTSA (2.378 g, 12.5 mmol, 5 equiv.) and external oxidant H2O2 (2 mL) were added to the reaction mixture. The system was stirred magnetically and heated at 75 °C on an oil bath for 24 h. Now, the reaction was quenched by the addition of 50 mL water. The aqueous solution was extracted with ethyl acetate (3 × 30 mL) and the combined extract was dried over anhydrous MgSO4. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure and the colored crystals of 2-amino benzothiazoles 3’ were obtained in quantitative yields.
