Synthesis of 5-methyl-2-(methylthio)benzo[d]oxazole
To a solution of 5-methylbenzo[d]oxazole-2-thiol (1.3 g, 7.9 mmol) in acetonitrile (15 mL) at 0° C. was added potassium carbonate (1.3 g, 9.4 mmol) and methyl iodide (0.53 mL, 8.7 mmol) and the reaction mixture was stirred at RT for 3 h.
The reaction mixture was concentrated under vacuum and diluted with water (30 mL), acidified with 1 N HCl.
The solid obtained was filtered and dried under vacuum to afford the title compound (1.4 g, 99%); 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6): δ 7.50 (d, J=8.0 Hz, 1H), 7.43 (s, 1H), 7.11 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 1H), 2.74 (s, 3H), 2.40 (s, 3H); LC-MS: m/z 180.1 (M+1)+.
