4-Fluorobenzenesulfonyl chloride (1.46 g, 7.5 mmol, 1.0 equivalents), potassium fluoride (2.18 g, 37.5 mmol, 5 equivalents) and 18 crown 6 (50 mg) were stirred in acetonitrile (15ml), at room temperature, under argon, for 5h. Saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate (50 ml) was added and then the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (2x50ml). The organic extracts were combined, washed with saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate (25ml), dried with magnesium sulphate, filtered and evaporated to dryness. 4-Fluorobenzenesulfonyl fluoride (D14) was obtained as a yellow oil (1.25, 94%). 13C-NMR (CDCI3): δ 117.3 (d, J = 30Hz), 129.0 (m), 131.6 (d, J = 10Hz), 166.9 (d, J=260Hz)
