Reaction Conditions:

with 1-hydroxy-3H-benz[d][1,2]iodoxole-1,3-dione in dimethyl sulfoxide; for 6 h;

Steps:

IBX (1.0 g, 3.5 mmol, 1.5 eq) was added to a solution of 6-hydroxyhexanoic acid (0.60 g,4.5 mmol) in DMSO (10 mL). The mixture was stirred for 6 hand quenched by additionof water. The precipitate was removed by filtration. Extraction with ethyl acetate (2 x 50 ml), anhydrification with Na2S04, and removal of the solvent in vacuo gave almost pureoxoacid yield 0.46 g (78%) as colorless oil.1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCh): 8 9.48 (1H, t, J = 1.57 Hz); 2.33 (2H, t, J = 7.45 Hz); 2.20(2H, t, 1= 7.20 Hz); 2.10-1.95 (2H, m), 1.45-1.32 (2H, m).
