Intermediate 17: step c 2-Bromo-1-(1-methyl-1H-benzoimidazol-5-yl)-ethanone.HBr To 1-(1-methyl-1H-benzoimidazol-5-yl)-ethanone (600 mg, 3.44 mmol, intermediate 17, step b) in 48% HBr (5 mL) at 60° C. was added 0.778 M Br2 in 1,4-dioxane (4.43 mL, 3.44 mmol). The mixture was stirred for 18 h at 60° C., concentrated and dried under vacuum to give the title compound.
