A solution of dicyclohexylphosphine (98%; 35.30 g, 174 mmol) in chlorobenzene (90.10 g) was heated to 80 0C. Ethyl trichloroacetate (30.17 g, 158 mmol) was added dropwise over a period of 46 min while maintaining the temperature of the reaction mixture at 800C. After additional digestion of the reaction mixture at 800C for 1.7 h, it was distilled in vacuo producing dicyclohexylchlorophosphine (29.63 g, 80.6% yield) in 98.9% purity by 31P NMR.
