with HNO3;glacial acetic acid at 0 - 20; for 3 h;

Steps:

9 Intermediate 2:

Concentrated nitric acid (8.2 g, 0.14 mol) was added dropwise to a solution of Intermediate 1 (11.7 g) in acetic acid (300 mL) at 0°C and the reaction was stirred at 20°C for 3 hours. After the reaction, the reaction mixture was poured into water (500 mL) and extracted with ethyl acetate (300 mL) three times. The combined organic phases were washed twice with saturated brine (300 mL), dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and filtered, the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the obtained crude product was separated and purified by silica gel column (petroleum ether:ethyl acetate=1:1) to obtain Intermediate 2 (5.2 g, 33% yield).
