Use
p-xylene is an aromatic hydrocarbon based on benzene with two methyl substituents with the chemical formula C8H10 or C6H4(CH3)2. It is one of the three isomers of dimethylbenzene known collectively as xylenes. The p stands for para, identifying that he two methyl groups in p-xylene occupy the diametrically opposite substituent positions 1 and 4. p-Xylene is a colorless, flammable liquid practically insoluble in water. p-Xylene is a colorless watery liquid with a sweet odor and is dangerously flammable, with a flash point of 27C. p-Xylene is widely used as a feedstock (or building block) to manufacture other industrial chemicals, notably terephthalic acid (TPA), purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and dimethyl-terephthalate (DMT). It also may be polymerised directly to produce parylene.
