Description

Lutetium(III) iodide is mixed with other metal iodides like yttrium iodide and gadolinium iodide to prepare scintillators, which is used for gamma and neutron detection. Further, it reacts with elemental iodine in 2-propanol to form the ionic species, [LuI(HOPr)][I].
