1.2. General procedure for the synthesis of compounds 3-32
General procedure: To a mixture of 5-chlorosalicylic acid (1 mmol) and aniline derivative (1 mmol) in round bottom flask added 10 mL xylenes and heated to 120 oC. Then added PCl3 (0.4 mmol) drop wise for 5 min, and then stirred it at 120 oC for 3-4 h. The reaction progress was monitored by thin layer chromatography (TLC) carried out on Merck silica-gel plates (0.25 mm thick, 60F254), visualized by UV (254 nm) light. After complete consumption of starting materials, brought it to 70 oC, quenched with water. White precipitated filtered and washed with water (20 mL, 70 oC)then washed with 10% ethanol in water obtained desired salicylanilide with >98% purity.
