Reaction Conditions:
Stage #1:2-pyrrole aldehyde with hydroxylamine-O-sulfonic acid in water at 20;
Stage #2: with potassium hydroxide in water at 0 - 20; for 4 h;

Pyrrole-2-carboxaldehyde (3.00 g, 0.0316 mole) was combined with hydroxylamine- O-sulfonic acid (12.5 g, 0.11 mole) in 100 ml water and stirred at room temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was cooled to 0°C and a solution of potassium hydroxide (12.06 g, 0.603 mole) in 80ml water was added dropwise over 1 hour time period. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. The reaction mixture was extracted with dichloromethane (3 x 100 ml), the extract was dried over sodium sulfate (anh.). The solvent was removed to give 3.36 g of product as a liquid (yield: 100%)
