Uses
Propyl cinnamate is used as an insect repellant.
Preparation
By esterification of cinnamic acid with propyl alcohol in the presence of HCl as a catalyst; or by direct esterification in the presence of benzene.
Synthesis
Propyl cinnamate is prepared by azeotropic esterification of n-Propanol with Cinnamic acid.
