Description
Prepared from 2-methyl-1-butyl isothiourea picrate by conversion to bis [(s)-2-methylbutyl] disulfide, followed by reduction to the corresponding thiol, using sodium metal in liquid ammonia.
Chemical Properties
2-Methyl-1-butanethiol has a disagreeable odor.
Occurrence
Reported as occurring in the petroleum fraction boiling between 111 and 150°C; also in cooked beef.
Uses
2-Methyl-1-butanethiol is a thiol with antiinflammatory properties.
Preparation
