(-)-Dimethyl 2,3-O-isopropylidene-L-tartrate may be used as a starting material in the total synthesis of (+)-migrastatinand also in the synthesis of a structural analog ofS-ribosylhomocysteinase (LuxS), which acts as a potent competitive inhibitor against LuxS.
