Description

Prothionamide is a bactericidal thioamide effective against M. tuberculosis (MIC = ~0.5 μg/ml), M. leprae (MIC = 0.8-1.6 mg/L), and M. avium. It forms a covalent adduct with nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide that inhibits mycobacterial InhA, the enoyl-acyl ACP reductase involved in mycolic acid biosynthesis, with a Ki value of 2 nM.
