Description
Amikacin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from kanamycin A . Like other aminoglycosides, amikacin binds to bacterial ribosomes and disrupts translation. However, the specific binding sites differ between different aminoglycoside antibiotics, as do the mechanisms of resistance.
