A slurry of 2-(2-(-2-chloroethoxy)ethoxy)ethanol (25.Og, 148 mmol) and sodiumazide (14.5g, 222mmol) in dimethylformamide (250ml) was standing at 100 ⁰C over night. The reaction mixture was cooled on an ice bath, filtered and the organic solvent was evaporated in vacuo. The residue was dissolved in dichloromethane (200ml), washed with water (75ml), the water- phase was extracted with additional dichloromethane (75ml) and the combined organic EPO phases were dried with magnesium sulphate (MgSO4), filtered and evaporated in vacuo giving an oil which was used without further purification. Yield: 30.0 g (100%). ¹³C-NMR (CDCI₃): δ = 72.53; 70.66-70.05; 61.74; 50.65
