Uses
By virtue of their low toxicity and high versatility, hold considerable promise as catalysts for various organic transformations
Production Methods
Bismuth powder is placed in a retort, Br2 is poured over it, and the mixture is allowed to stand for a few days and then distilled. It is also possible to heat Br2 with Bi in a round-bottom flask equipped with a reflux condenser. Purification is by vacuum distillation.
