Description

Safrole is a natural phenylpropene that can be extracted from a variety of plants, including sassafras and nutmeg. It is a precursor in the synthesis of insecticides, fragrances, and the psychoactive drug 3,4-methylenedioxymethylamphetamine (3,4-MDMA; ). Isosafrole is a natural aromatic compound derived from safrole that also serves as a precursor in the synthesis of fragrances, including piperonal, and psychoactive drugs, such as 3,4-MDMA and MDA . Isosafrole is also an analog of stiripentol , and, like stiripentol, inhibits the conversion of pyruvate to lactate by lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) isoforms LDH1 and LDH5. It is more effective than stiripentol at reducing seizures in mice, suggesting utility in managing epileptic seizures. As a potential precursor for regulated compounds, isosafrole is scheduled as a List I chemical by the Drug Enforcement Agency. This product is intended for forensic and research purposes.
