Description

Imiquimod is an imidazoquinoline compound that activates toll-like receptor 7 (EC50 = 2.1 μM) on immune cells, inducing the production of IFN-α, IL-12, and other mediators. It also up-regulates the opioid growth factor (OGF) receptor on a variety of cancer cell types, enabling an OGF-mediated block of cell proliferation (IC50 = 2 μM). These actions make imiquimod efficacious as an anti-viral and anti-tumor compound when applied topically.
