Description

Dabigatran is a potent thrombin inhibitor (Ki = 4.5 nM). It also inhibits trypsin (Ki = 50.3 nM), but only weakly inhibits other serine proteases. Dabigatran has poor bioavailability after oral administration. However, dabigatran etexilate is a double prodrug that has excellent oral bioavailability and undergoes in vivo hydrolytic cleavage to produce dabigatran.
