Description

Manzamine A is a β-carboline alkaloid isolated from the marine sponge Xestospongia ashmorica that acts as a GSK-3β inhibitor. The compound is reported to have activity against the gram-positive bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis. Malaria studies report Manzamine A to block the asexual erythrocytic stage of Plasmodium berghei. Furthermore, Manzamine A has been suggested to have anti-HIV, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal activity.
